Attire

The Maryland Theatre does not have a dress code for guests. Some event goers may be celebrating a special occasion and will dress up and others may wear more casual attire. We encourage patrons to wear comfortable and appropriate attire as well as footwear for the occasion. If you are unsure what to wear, we recommend business casual dress.
  • Symphony Performance, Ballet, Premier of a Play, or Red-Carpet Event guests often wear Business Casual or Cocktail Attire

  • Concert, Musical or Matinee Event: Guest wear a variety of attire, but often nice Jeans, Khakis, Blouse, Polo, or a Favored Band Tee

  • Themed Movie Night: Costume or Cosplay is encouraged!
Self-Coat Check is available for each performance in the Lower-Level Lobby, or you may store your coat under your seat.

 Applause

The correct times to applaud a performance vary depending on the nature of the performance. While we encourage you to praise performers if you are unsure of when those times are, it is best to wait and follow the lead of other audience members.
  • For a Symphony, the times to applaud are when the conductor takes the podium at the very beginning of the performance, when the conductor presents the orchestra, at intermission, and, of course, at the end of the performance.
  • At a Dance Recital, applause is often encouraged, at the end of each performance unless specifically instructed to hold your applause by the Director of the Recital.
  • Whereas for a ballet performance, often applause is held until intermission and the end of the program unless otherwise instructed by the Director of the Ballet.
Standing Ovations are appropriate at the end of all performances if so inspired!

 Mobile Devices

Please no texting, talking or utilizing your devices once you have been seated for the event or performance.

All devices must be off or silent for performance. Prior to the performance start, encourage guests to reduce the brightness on their devices, including smartwatches, as the bright screens can be a distraction to performers and fellow patrons.

If you must utilize your device, we ask you to exit the event space and use your device in our lobby during a break but please, be sure to silence your phone before returning to your seat.
