The Soldier’s Tale (L'Historie du Soldat), by Igor Stravinsky, is set to text by Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz. Stravinsky’s celebrated masterwork fuses jazz, ragtime and tango to animate this classic Russian folktale about a soldier who trades his fiddle to the devil in exchange for untold riches. Ravel's Le tombeau de Couperin, a memorial piece that was written as a tribute to his friends who had passed away during their involvement in World War I, will also be performed.
The program will feature award-winning actor, pianist, singer, musical director, composer, arranger and educational leader, Greg Watkins, as the Narrator, and television and radio personality Robert Aubry Davis as "The Devil." Carter Waters from The City Ballet School and Gideon Hall from Barbara Ingram School for the Arts will also perform in this magical evening of music, dance, and storytelling.
In person tickets are available for both performances. The Sunday performance will also be streamed on MSO Live! For more information, visit watch.marylandsymphony.org
